This engineering programme trains students in research, design and the development of innovative products and processes that will benefit the healthcare sector. You will develop medical innovations that really contribute to better care. This dynamic, interdisciplinary field combines engineering and natural and life sciences, such as biology, nanotechnology, physics, electrical engineering, chemistry and mechanical engineeringThe role of technology in healthcare is gaining importance. Therefore there is a growing need for engineers with broad technical knowledge, insight into the workings of the human body and creative ideas. During this programme you will be trained to be such an engineer. You will be taught to research, design and develop technology for healthcare. You will use and develop technology to realize new and original applications. Biomedical Engineering is an interdisciplinary field, combining engineering with the natural and life sciences.

The programme is closely associated with the MIRA Institute for Biomedical Technology and Technical Medicine. MIRA ranks among the top five bioengineering departments worldwide. The researchers at MIRA will be responsible for your training.

The programme focuses on three key areas: Imaging & Diagnostics, which is all about techniques for visualizing and interpreting the processes in cells and bodies based on radiation, acoustics, photo-acoustics, ultrasound, and magnetism; Bionanotechnology & Advanced Biomanufacturing, which centres on the development of technologies that restore function to diseased and damaged organs and tissues, such as bone and blood vessels; and Neural & Motor Systems, which focuses on the restoration of nervous and motor system function.
