The School of Biomedical Engineering is a collaborative effort of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering. The program has a particular interest in biomedical devices innovation. Degrees are awarded for concentrated study in a selected area involving course work and a research project, and a thesis is required. Applicants should indicate their preferred research area when applying.

Requirements:-

Candidates must satisfy the general requirements for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Students from overseas should note that the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is strongly recommended, and that a score of 600 in the paper-based TOEFL (or the equivalent score on a comparable test) is required from students whose first language is not English. Please note this department requires all applicants to have an A- average.

The Biological Engineering Program at Dalhousie University offers a variety of fields–biological waste management, biorobotics, agricultural engineering, aquacultural engineering, food processing engineering, renewable energy, energy conservation in greenhouses, and pollution control. The MASc and PhD degrees involve a research thesis and four courses plus a graduate seminar. The MEng degree is a Professional Engineering degree that requires either five more courses than the MASc degree plus a graduate seminar, or three more courses than the MASc degree plus a graduate seminar and a project.

Conferral of the M.D., C.M. degree follows successful completion of the 4 curricular components of the MD, CM Program: Fundamentals of Medicine and Dentistry (year 1 and the first part of year 2), Transition to Clinical Practice (second part of year 2), Clerkship (years 3 and 4) and Physicianship (longitudinal throughout all 4 years). General admission requirements

  • Graduation from a university-preparatory program at a senior secondary school: Higher Secondary School Certificate awarded on completion of Standard XII. Certificates must be official. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by school principal, head, or counsellor. Notarized copies are not acceptable.
  • Admission average calculated on final year academic courses/exams: Grades required for admission will vary by program, but based on the India grading scale, the minimum average needed to fall within the competitive range is approximately 74% on a 33% pass scale, or 76% on a 40% pass scale.
