English is the language of instruction at UBC. All prospective students must demonstrate English-language competency prior to admission. There are numerous ways to meet the English Language Admission Standard.

General admission requirements

  • Graduation from a university-preparatory program at a senior secondary school: Higher Secondary School Certificate awarded on completion of Standard XII. Certificates must be official. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by school principal, head, or counsellor. Notarized copies are not acceptable.
  • Admission average calculated on final year academic courses/exams: Grades required for admission will vary by program, but based on the India grading scale, the minimum average needed to fall within the competitive range is approximately 74% on a 33% pass scale, or 76% on a 40% pass scale.

  • Math (Standard XII)
  • Chemistry (Standard XII)
  • Physics (Standard XII) (Physics may be waived with grades of A in Senior Math and Senior Chemistry)

ii. Mathematics (4 credits) chosen from:

Academic:  2201 (50% minimum), 3201 (60% minimum)

Students who received a combined average of 70% in high school Academic Mathematics 2201 and 3201, or a pass in both high school Advanced Mathematics 2200 and 3200 can be exempted from Math 1100.  Students must apply for the exemption.

If candidate are 21 years of age or older, by the first day of classes of the term in which admission in sought and do not have a high school diploma, candidate may still be eligible for admission as a Non-Matriculated Adult (NMA).  Admission to the Kinesiology Diploma program requires passing grades and an overall average of 60 percent on the following Alberta Education high school courses or equivalents:

Students who have completed a Natural Resource Compliance diploma from Lethbridge College will be accepted directly into the Conservation Enforcement  Bachelor of Applied Science. A minimum GPA of 2.00 or equivalent is required for admission.

Transfer students are required to have a diploma in natural resource management or equivalent, or a related bachelor’s degree in an area such as resource management, biology, environmental studies or a similar area of study. Transfer students with related credentials will be accepted into the program after being assessed on an individual basis to determine whether they are required to take bridging courses to meet degree outcomes.  A minimum GPA of 2.00 or equivalent is required for admission.
