The Nutrition and Food Service Management Program provides educational opportunities for individuals who wish to pursue a career in food service management and attain membership with the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM). The focus of this accredited diploma program is on the health care sector. Langara graduates are in demand both in BC and across Canada.

Requirements:-

A minimum grade of 80% in one of the following courses (or equivalent):
English 12;
English Literature 12; or
English 12 First Peoples
LPI (Language Proficiency Index) with a minimum of 26 on the essay and one of 5 in English usage, 5 in sentence structure or 10 in reading comprehension.
LET (Langara English Test) level 3 or better.
Successful completion of a post-secondary English or Communications course for which Langara offers university-transfer credit OR “S” in ENGL 1107, 1108, 1110 at Langara College.
TOEFL – internet-based (IBT) score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening.
TOEFL – paper-based 550 with TWE 4.0.
IELTS – International Language Testing System – minimum level 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in listening and speaking.
CAEL 60 overall with essay 60.

How To Apply:-

  1. Two letters of reference attesting to the abilities that would be an asset in a career in food service management, one of which must be from an employer.
  2. Resumé.
  3. A letter of intent (maximum 2 pages) that explains why the applicant wishes to enter the program and that demonstrates he/she has an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Nutrition Manager in a health care setting.
  4. Valid FoodSafe Level 1 (Basic) or equivalent – completed in the last 5 years.
  5. Applicants with previous work experience in the food service industry may be eligible for Prior Learning, Flexible Assessment and Recognition (PLFAR) as determined by the Department Chair.

The four Langara College programs in Health Sciences offer an interdisciplinary approach to the study of health, illness, and disease in human communities. Health is one of the largest employment sectors in the country, and is anticipated to grow at a faster than average rate. Employment options are diverse, and extend far beyond serving as doctors or nurses.  Upon successful completion, students of Health Sciences programs will have gained a strong basic background in this rapidly changing field.

Requirements:-

  • Successful completion of a BC secondary program (Grade 12) or the equivalent, or
  • Be at least 19 years of age by the first day of the first semester of attendance, or
  • Successful completion of an A.B.E. (Adult Basic Education) or G.E.D. (General Educational Development) program.
  • To be considered for conditional admission, students must submit an Appeal for Admission and Readmission Form and ensure that the following information is received by Registrar and Enrolment Services:
    1. Students must have completed the online PSI Selections form and indicated that their transcript be sent electronically to Langara AND their PEN must be on file at the College. An official Ministry of Education paper transcript must be submitted if grades are not received electronically.
    2. Students must submit an interim transcript of the course that they are completing with a grade of at least 60%.

    All Graduate Certificates require a minimum 15 years of academics in 1st or 2nd Division (Degree or Diploma) PLUS the admission requirements noted for each individual program.
  • Fast Track:
    Students with a minimum of 15 years of academics in 1st or 2nd Division with a diploma in a field related to the Fast Track Program will typically be assessed for Fast Track entry to Year Two (Semester 3). Further advanced standing beyond the Fast Track option may be granted for students with more advanced credentials.
  • Diplomas and Certificates:
    Minimum admission requirements for post-secondary programs is Higher Secondary Certificate or Standard XII with minimum 50% average plus additional requirements noted below.
  • English proficiency:International applicants must meet Fleming College’s English language proficiency requirements in order to gain admission to a study program. See the Language requirementspage for more information.

How To Apply:-

Application forms may be submitted after September 15 for admission in the following year. Applicants are advised to submit their application early in the academic year. Acceptance into the program starts in mid- June for the intake in September. Official transcripts with final grades must be submitted by May 18. Only completed applications will be considered in the selection process.

Applications received after March 31 for fall entry into open enrolment programs are considered late and will be processed subject to course availability.
