Vancouver Community College provides a two-year diploma in Dental Technology Sciences. Graduates acquire the specialized knowledge and competencies comprising the scope of dental technology practice. The VCC Dental Technology Sciences program is based on the College of Dental Technicians of BC (CDTBC) required standards of competency for entry to the Dental Technology profession.

The curriculum integrates the related knowledge that supports the professional, productive and skilled design, fabrication, modification and repair of removable and fixed dental prostheses and appliances used in orthodontics and oral and maxillo-facial surgery. Students learn many technical aspects within the scope of practice of the dental technology profession.

The Dental Technology Sciences Diploma program leads to employment in, or ownership of, a dental laboratory. Graduates are eligible to write the licensing examinations according to the requirements of the CDTBC.

Requirements:-

Admission to the Dental Technology Program is on a competitive selection basis. Applicants must possess:

  • Grade 12, or equivalent
  • English 12 with a C + or better or equivalent
  • Human Biology 12 with a C+ or better or equivalent
  • Chemistry 11 or Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 11 or Physics 11 with C+ or better or equivalent
  • Complete and submit to VCC Registrar’s Office a Career Investigation and Summary Report

Selection Process

  • All qualified candidates who meet the admissions requirements by the deadline date will take the dexterity and aptitude tests. The deadline date will be identified on the program website and will be approximately 4 months before the program starts.
  • The qualified applicants with the highest scores in the tests will be offered seats.

Upon Acceptance applicants must provide evidence of:

  • Basic First Aid and CPR-Level C training

Note: The provincial regulatory authority (the College of Dental Technicians of BC) requires a clear criminal record prior to registration. Please note that failure to have a clear criminal record could prevent the student from being eligible for registration in BC.

All requests for transfer credits or course exemptions for all courses in the program must be submitted with application to the program. View the Request for Transfer Credit form.

Health Requirements:

  • Applicants with back, hand or shoulder problems may be affected by the physical demands of the profession
  • Prospective students with respiratory problems may be affected by dust from grinding and polishing and fumes from materials used
  • Those with sensitive skin and conditions such as sensitivity to latex may also be affected by some materials used in dental laboratory practice.

The Admissions Department must receive a completed application and official transcripts and the Career Investigation Form with a completed Summary of Observation by August 1, 2018.

The dexterity and aptitude tests will be offered /arranged by invitation for applicants who have submitted all admission requirements.

Letters of acceptance are sent prior to the start of the program, and students are required to make a first payment at this time to reserve a seat.

With a career in the field of biotechnology with an emphasis in forensics, you have diverse employment opportunities, from working in biological research to quality assurance, to medical or health-related fields, tracking down criminals or identifying victims of crime. Laboratory related occupations are among the fastest growing occupations in the economy. With specialization in forensics and biotechnology, this program is unique and its graduates are in demand in this emerging field. This advanced diploma program would traditionally take six semesters to complete. However, the program has been designed in an accelerated, compressed format, to provide six semesters of course work over five semesters.

In their final, fifth semester, students can complete their full-time internship from April to August – giving graduates the advantage of getting out into the workforce faster. (Should they so choose, students may defer the summer internship until the fall.) Courses in the program integrate theory and practice opportunities in labs and practice settings. Graduates will be critical thinkers with problem-solving abilities, strong interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills and a solid foundation in forensic/DNA/medical applications.

The Applied Ecology and Conservation (AEC) program provides students with the employment skills needed for work as conservation field technicians The program is based on a core of university studies courses that allow students the option of exiting with a Certificate after completion of one year, continuing to the two-year Diploma or transferring into a Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor degree program in Biology, Environmental Science, and Geography at other post-secondary institutions in British Columbia and elsewhere.

The Applied Ecology and Conservation program is unique in providing students with an understanding of both western science and First Nation ecological knowledge systems. Both knowledge systems are integral components of conservation research and regulation. Instruction is provided by both Okanagan College and the Okanagan Nation Indigenous educational institution, the En’owkin Centre. The En’owkin Centre provides expertise for the Traditional and Aboriginal Ecological Knowledge (TEK and ATK) components of the program. Skills are applicable to a variety of ecosystems. Field experiences are taught within the context of one of the most threatened ecosystems in Canada, the south Okanagan, an area with the highest biodiversity and the most species at risk in Canada.

A Diploma in Criminology will be awarded to students who complete the equivalent of two years of required first and second-year courses at Northern Lights College. The diploma is intended to prepare students for entry-level employment positions and for continued studies in academic and professional programs. Relevant areas of work and additional education include Corrections, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Forensic Studies, and Law Enforcement.

* A. Domestic students must have official transcripts demonstrating the following English Requirement: One of the following with a “B” grade or higher: Grade 12 English, English Literature 12, English 12 First Peoples, English 050, or English 099. Students who do not meet one of the above English requirements must complete the NLC Writing Assessment for appropriate course placement.

* B. International students must have documentation demonstrating the following English Requirement: An IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 or higher with no band less than 5.5. Students with a writing band of 6.0 or less are required to complete English 099 with a “B” grade or higher before or during the first semester of their program. The necessity for upgrading can extend the length of the program.

-Applicants who do not have secondary school and/or post-secondary transcripts that provide documentation of prerequisites should speak with a Northern Lights College Admissions Officer. In these situations, entry-level skills may be evaluated as required through the Writing Assessment, the College and Career Preparation Math Assessment, or other assessments.

  6. Pay the deposit outlined in the Letter of Acceptance to guarantee your place in the program. Deposits may be paid at Student Services any NLC campus. Please note that the number of Letters of Acceptance issued may exceed the number of seats available. Your seat is not guaranteed until your deposit is paid.

Successful pilots and business people have a lot in common — they are skilled communicators, develop plans for success, assess conditions, and anticipate change. Take your passion for flight to new heights with UFV Aviation’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).

You get to graduate with a bachelor’s degree, private pilot’s license, commercial pilot’s license, and several ratings that enable you to fly multiple types of aircraft in varying conditions. Your pilot’s license is in accordance with ICAO standards, meaning you can fly domestically and internationally.

Throughout the program, you take a combination of flight training, aviation theory, and academic courses.

You complete your flight training at an external flight training provider, approved by UFV.

In your first year, you earn your private and commercial pilot’s licenses; in your third and fourth year, you fly multi-engine aircraft, master instrumentation, and specialize with either a Heavy Jet Transport or Professional Flight Instructor option.
