The New Zealand Aid Programme offers several different types of scholarship.  There are four types of scholarships for full-time tertiary level study in New Zealand:

  • • New Zealand Pacific Scholarships
  • • New Zealand Development Scholarships
  • • New Zealand ASEAN Scholarships
  • • New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships

Levels/Fields of study:

Depending on the country you are from, New Zealand Scholarships are available for the following level of studies: Postgraduate Certificate (6 months), Postgraduate Diploma (1 year), Masters Degree (1 – 2 years) or PhD (up to 3.5 years).

Preferred fields of study are those that are most relevant to the development needs of your country (i.e. renewable energy, agriculture development, disaster risk management, private sector development, public sector development).  Find out the preferred subjects for your country.

Requirements:-

Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing your scholarship.

• Be a citizen of the country from which you are applying for a scholarship and have resided in that country for at least the last two years.

• Not a citizen or permanent resident of any the following countries: New Zealand, Australia, Israel, South Korea, Japan, USA, any European Union country, Qatar, United Kingdom, Canada, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. (Note: This criteria does not apply to people from Niue, Cook Islands, Tokelau who are New Zealand citizens, and it also does not apply to NZ-Samoan dual citizens.)

• Meet the Immigration requirements for a student visa to New Zealand or the Pacific country you will study in (i.e. medical checks, etc.).

• Meet the academic entry requirements (including English language ability) for your preferred programme of study and institution. Refer to the website of your preferred institution to confirm entry requirements.

• Have at least one year full time (two-year’s part time) work experience relevant to your career and/or preferred qualification unless you are applying straight from school or during my first year of tertiary study (for countries offered undergraduate study).

• Intend to return to your home country for a minimum of two years on completion of the scholarship.

Applications can be done online or paper-based depending on your country. Applicants from countries that are eligible for both online or paper-based applications, can apply from 1 February until 14 March 2018 (12pm NZ Time) while applicants from eligible countries that can only apply online can do so from 15 February until 28 March 2018 (12pm NZ Time). For New Zealand Commonwealth scholarships, only paper applications are accepted from 1 February to 28nMarch 2018.  Read the application schedule to know which countries can apply during which application period.

The Master of Health Science programme is tailored for health managers and health practitioners, specifically those working for DHBs, PHOs, the fitness industry and sports organisations, as well as social workers, community care workers and allied health practitioners.

You will expand your knowledge within an inter-disciplinary learning environment and develop skills in critical analysis, constructive synthesis, and advanced practice and research within your chosen discipline area. An option for this program is the completion of a 30 credit scholarly project or a 90 credit thesis. This provides the opportunity for you to critically examine philosophical, methodological and ethical issues that underpin research and establish a sound foundation for developing knowledge and understanding of the nature and application of research.

    • B average or better in a Bachelor Honours degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in a health field (120 credits at level 8)
Alternative requirements
    • If you do not meet the Academic entry criteria above, you may be admitted to the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science, and upon successful completion of two courses (B average) from the list of approved courses for the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science, gain admission to the Master of Health Science.
    • provide evidence of having completed a relevant professional qualification; and
    • provide evidence of successful completion of a relevant qualification or programme of study which is equivalent to those of first degree graduates, through the submission of a portfolio of evidence.

Biochemistry seeks to explain life in chemical terms. The basic goal of the science of biochemistry is to determine how the collections of inanimate objects that constitute living organisms interact with each other to maintain and perpetuate life.

Careers

Research: A variety of technical positions are available in academia (e.g., universities), industry (e.g., biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies), government laboratories (e.g., agricultural and food agencies and police forensic laboratories) and healthcare system (e.g., hospitals).

Teaching: Biochemists are involved in teaching at high schools, universities and technical colleges.

Communications: Some biochemists work as science writers for textbooks and prepare technical reports for industry.

Business: Biochemists play an important role in the management, sales and marketing in science-based companies, such as pharmaceutical firms.

Regulatory/Law: Many biochemists are employed by regulatory bodies such as the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and the Food and Drug Administration, to develop government policies and patent law.

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science is a three-year undergraduate degree that will give you a basic understanding of molecular and cell biology, along with the research skills you need to start your journey towards a career in biomedical science.

You’ll study the relationships between humans, health and disease, and look at real-life health and medical issues like new diseases, or old diseases that resist treatment. Other areas you’ll study are the role of molecular biology in health, drug design and clinical testing.

Covering the entirety of human life, from reproduction to ageing, including microbiology and pharmacology, you’ll gain a solid understanding of the world of biomedical science.

Understanding how and why we age are fundamental biological questions with great medical and societal impact. To address these questions, The Programme train a new generation of biomedical scientists to unravel the basic molecular mechanisms underlying ageing and age-related diseases.

Programmes interdisciplinary approach integrates the fields of genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, systems biology and translational medicine. The CGA provides a strong research environment and a cutting-edge training programme to meet this challenge.

The Programme offer young scientists of exceptional talent a structured PhD training in biomedical disciplines within an international environment.
